LIVE ON THE EDGE

With various wind directions, the ideal is south-easterly and the best swell is full on from the west.  The best time to surf is at mid to high tide.  There are no serious hazards but there are reefs nearby and occasional strong currents.  The average water temperatures are from 40 to 120C  Beachwizard.co.uk gives the break a rating of 3/5

If there’s no surf, Westport is a stunning beach to walk along and check out the wildlife - which includes grey seals, otters, dolphins and kites.  Golden eagles have been seen in the area too. The lovely dunes around the beach are beautiful and protected as  a site of special scientific interest.

Welcome to The Edge

Use this site to get live pictures of the waves at Westport Beach via our live streaming webcam; check our daily surf reports or see what the local weather is doing.

Soon we’ll be offering you links to local services and info; helping you find somewhere to stay, get surf lessons, hire boards or find other surf gear.

Eventually we hope to host a forum where you can let us know what you think about the site and what you want from us, as well as a place to leave messages, post pics and a host of other stuff.   For now, check out the webcam and Live on the Edge for a while ...

The only live surfcam on the mainland west coast of Scotland, Live on the Edge is based at a small beachside cottage beside Westport Beach, Kintyre (at the north end of Machrihanish Bay).  This beach is a little known jewel in the surf world -  at least four miles long with  a beach break  suitable for long, short and bodyboards alike.
